Information for Beginners

Water

We always use filtered or spring water for food preparation and drinking.

Salt

✅  We only use mineral sea salt.
❌  Never use table salt.

Brand suggestions (in order from best to good):

  • Baja Gold
  • Celtic Sea
  • Redmond Sea
  • Himalayan Pink

Budgeting

If on a budget, buy organic vegetables and conventional meats. Use purple and green cabbage (separate or together) for sauerkraut and fermented cabbage juice. Introduce all foods and modalities slowly to see how your body communicates with you about the introduction of new things. Use the Weston A. Price Foundation for food resources. See our list of local farms and shops if you live in northwest Georgia or Chattanooga.

Information & Research

Do not Google information. There is a lot of confusion about health out there, even by well-intentioned people. So in the beginning you are better off sticking with trusted sources inside the community. Use the recipes, suggestions, and resources offered here or on the Facebook page. We are bringing you a lot of information gathered from a wide selection of practitioners, nutritionists, and integrative doctors.

The goal with ARP is to take our health in our own hands. Release perfectionism and begin to interact with your health with a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn. It is OK to make mistakes. Have a little faith and trust the process. Like Hippocrates said: “If you are not your own doctor, you are a fool.”

Supplementation

Supplements are used sparingly and only if they meet certain requirements. Not all supplements are created equal, and many offer no benefit whatsoever. Instead, foods will provide us with the nutrition our bodies need. Our DNA doesn’t necessarily know we aren’t hunter-gatherers anymore, so supplementation can be an inefficient means of maintaining health. However, in the case of long-standing deficiencies, supplementation can be a more expeditious way of attaining health.

Cooking

We don’t use microwaves to cook or to re-heat food.

To ensure we are not reintroducing toxins into our bodies, we only cook with items made from the following materials:

  • stainless steel
  • cast iron
  • unfinished clay
  • enamel

For storage, we use glass jars. If we absolutely must use plastic, it is at least not used with hot food.
